At Hrant Dink’s funeral on January 19, 2007 more than one hundred thousand people marched on Halaskargazi Caddesi in Sisli Istanbul, chanting “We are all Armenians.”
This spontaneous expression of solidarity echoed Dink’s lifelong mission: Reconciliation in Armenian Turkish relations historically marked by dogma and serious misunderstandings on both sides.
Dink was killed for speaking truth to progress. He would not let past tragedies impede reconciliation. For the longest time Dink, a champion of human rights and free speech had been a victim of racism.
